Position Battles

For 2 or more people battling for a starting job or place on the roster.

For me its a 7 man race for 3 spots in my bullpen: Esmalilin Caridad, John Gaub, John Grabow (maybe traded, if not he is a lock), Jeff Stevens, Jeff Gray, Jeff Samardzija, and Justin Berg.

Red Sox have a battle for the final spot in their rotation between prospects Adam Mills and Felix Doubront.

For the final two spots in the bullpen, Dan Runzler, Daniel Ray Herrera and Manny Delcarmen are battling.

These battles are negated with the acquisition of Ricky Romero and the trade of Hideki Okajima.

I suddenly have eight starters -- CC Sabathia, Andy Pettitte, Josh Beckett, Jake Peavy, John Lackey, Ben Sheets, Kyle Lohse, Chad Gaudin -- for five spots.

Talented Left Handed Specialist John Gaub has won a spot in my pen. Stevens, Caridad, and Samardzjia will be optioned to Triple A Iowa and Justin Berg will be optioned to Double A tennessee.
